Start your Visit at Bala
The Bala Lake Railway relies on the volunteers of the Bala Lake Railway Society, who turn out to help staff the trains, repair the engines and coaches, and relay the track, as well as the hundred-and-one other vital jobs which go to make up the work of a railway company.
Llanuwchllyn is the railway's main station; from here regular trains link the village with the delightful market town of Bala. At Llanuwchllyn, visitors can watch the steam locomotives being serviced before they join the train, can see the Victorian signal box in operation and can enjoy light refreshments in the station buffet.
Our railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day's visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.
Bala Lake Festival of Transport: next door to the railway at Llanuwchllyn station, also on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May.
Admission: Adult £5.00, Children under 16 £3.00, Family (2A+2C) £12.00
The Festival will feature a selection of vintage and classic tractors, motorbikes, cars, rally cars, stationary engines, classic Landrovers, fairground, military and large scale models.
Trade stands and refreshments available.
Car parking for the Festival of Transport will be in Llanuwchllyn Village with a free shuttle bus to the show.
Please note parking at the station will be for railway passengers only.
All enquiries for the Festival of Transport to the Organisers: Meirionnydd NVTEC Tractor Club, Secretary: Allen Main on 01678 530 408
A free vintage bus shuttle will connect the venue for the Model Railway Show with Bala station, then a train ride to Llanuwchllyn. We are encouraging visitors to spend the day around Bala. There will be plenty of entertainment between the Model Railway Show, vintage bus, steam trains on the Bala Lake Railway and the Festival of Transport, and a chance to visit Bala itself where there are plenty of places to eat as well as a good selection of local shops.
