    ADMISSION IS FREE but DONATIONS ARE WELCOME the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers is hosting an exhibition of coal carrying model railways in Newcastle upon Tyne on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June 2018. The event is organised by the Newcastle Centre of the Stephenson Locomotive Society (SLS). The idea for the exhibition was originally conceived by the SLS, Newcastle Centre Chairman, Les Paul and it was a great success over the last two years.

    Layouts featured will be John Cook’s much acclaimed ‘00’ gauge Kepier Colliery; Alan Gray’s ‘0’ gauge St. George’s Dock; Duncan Wilcock’s delightful ‘P4’ scale Croft Depot; Wansbeck Road, a 2mm scale Co. Durham Colliery Village station by Mick Simpson; Burnard’s Drift at Rainton Colliery, ’00’ gauge. The late Jack Burnard’s last project, completed and presented by Neil Glencross and Melvin Heslop; Brown’s Coal Yard, ‘N’ gauge landsale depot by Joe Brown; Blyth, ‘N’ gauge, a work in progress recreating a long lost railway location and Les Paul’s ‘00’ gauge Marine Park Yard, South Shields, which was created by prolific modeller Ian Blenkinsopp. an extra feature will be 16mm narrow gauge live steam by Colin Laidler from the NEIMME.
    - Additional features at the show will be David Fraser’s extensive exhibition on North Eastern Railway High Level Coal Staiths which always attracts much attention and new information to be added to the archive and David Dunn will be dipping into his own photo archive and the huge Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust collection and the pictures will be projected onto the big screen in the lecture theatre.
