Today, I popped into The Locoshed to grab a few bits for the layout. I was greeted by Jim, with a smile and a hand shake. I have met him before but he wouldn't have remembered me. He made nice conversation before offering me a cup of tea. What other shop on this planet in this day and age, would you get that?! He gave me all the attention I needed even though he was busy with other customers (I think they were "live in" customers ????), and I walked away with a beautiful new Loco to play with instead of the bits and bobs I wanted. What an salesman!
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for a nice experience and obviously, I will be back.

Found the shop's website when looking for a specific discontinued model and the extensive descriptions gave me confidence in the condition of the pre-owned ones. I was kept up to date with friendly reassuring emails when there was a slight delay in finding one of the things I'd ordered and Jim went out of his way to make sure he got me it. Great service. I look forward to being a return customer.

if you miss the traditional model shop where the Staff are interested in the customer and will take the time and trouble to provide advice and assistance - LOOK NO FURTHER - as this is definitely the place for you - Jim the owner always has a smile, a cheery word and a welcoming brew or soft drink (plus Customer toilet - useful especially to those of a certain age!!)
The range of stock (and knowledge) is extensive - all Scales and Gauges - new and pre-loved with prices and quality to suit all pockets and ranges of experience - Briish mainly but some Continental and American too
If you cannot see what you want - it may be on the extensive Website - but always ask as Stock changes constantly and he will also look out for Customers 'Wants'
A demonstration layout - OO/HO and N - Analogue or DCC means you can try before you buy and make sure you get what you expect (no hoping what you ordered arrives - in one piece and working) and in the event there is an issue there are people on hand/contactable to sort it out - plus a wide range of expertise and knowledge to call upon - friendly advice is given freely and friends often made with others sharing similar interests
There are also good transport links - close to M60/Besses Metrolink and 135 Manchester-Bury Bus Route (and a Takeaway on the Corner and Pub across the road!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to all modellers of all ages and abilities!! They also attend Model Railway Exhibitions and Toy Fairs - and do Mail Order if you cannot get to the Shop - nothing is too much trouble

Amazing store, plenty of heart and sole here, great to chat with Jim and the team and feel the welcomeness and sheer passion for the hobby. A must visit for any model train people, even if it is just to browse (there is plenty to see) and have a brew. I am after a special item and Jim was all too happy to go above and beyond to soruce it for me. Really looking forward to visiting this store every time I am even remotely close by, it's worth the travel!

Popped in on a very wet and rainy day a few weeks ago. Jim was as friendly as ever and very pleased to show off the expansion of the shop - Its now much easier to see the vast range and amount of stock that he has on offer. There is also a customer toilet and drinks making facility as well as a small basic 00/n gauge layout to demonstrate engines on. I never go looking for anything in particular and I generally always find something of interest. Jim also has a magazine swap shelf which is very handy - Take along some magazines that you've read and then swap them for some that you haven't. Locoshed does have some stock for sale on the website but this is an absolutely minute proportion of the total of what's available. If you are looking for something particular give jim a ring or pop into the shop.

Just to let other buyers know the locoshed is not just a model shop it's an experience not to be missed - You are welcomed listened to advised and never forced into a sale - They have an excellent selection of stock only some of which is on the website - Only too pleased to help have an excellent product knowledge and deal with any problems and like all good businesses have solutions - Tony (DCC) is excellent - Chris (Dc) and barry (Railways experience) add to a pleasurable visit - I've had plenty of personal help and bought loads of model railway items and I can't speak highly enough of the locoshed manchester and jim the owner and the team don't forget you can buy swap and sell
