An excellent shop with very friendly and helpful staff. If they don't have the item/s that you need on the shelf, they will get them for you and they will notify you as soon as the item/s arrive. They also have a reasonable stock of used items at sensible prices.

I first visited buffers about 6 or 7 years ago and only discovered when passing. It was closed at the time, so I made a mental note to visit the following morning. I was in for a shock! A model shop run by women? I had my doubts But lo and behold, my preconceptions were blown out of the water in very little time at all. I quickly found out these 2 ladies were very knowledgeable in all things to do with railway modelling, or if by any chance they didn't, they knew a man (Or men) who did. This was a shop with a very jolly atmosphere and lively with innuendo. and as other customers have commented already, you're offered a tea or coffee quite quickly, or told to make your own and for others! Wide variety of stock across the main uk manufacturers is held or otherwise quickly available in most instances so I tend to pre-Order and pay/collect when I am in the area. They are not necessarily the cheapest but do in most instances offer some discounts over normal rrp. I think james may summed this place up perfectly in the 2 toy stories episodes where buffers were heavily involved in the recreation of the (Model) rail link between barnstaple and bideford. Miss this retailer and you miss an experience. Long may it continue to serve the south west's (And beyond) modellers.

There are not enough superlatives to describe this shop. As soon as you walk in, you are asked if you want a cup of tea or coffee unlike othe model shops I have been in. So much to chose from, it is a fantastic model shop indeed. The staff will bend over backwards to help you. Can't recommend them enough. If only all models shops were like this

This is my local shop which I have used for about two year since moving to dorset. Always friendly and helpful staff who offer you a drink when you arrive (Not a g&t sadly). Lots of stock and they are always willing to help you to find things. The loyalty card system is good and I am very happy to support a local business like this one. They will explain things to you and have regular repair clinics. They can also recommend someone to fit dcc chips if you need it. The canopy out front has gone now so there are a couple of extra parking spaces.

Small from the out side, but get inside, and it's like the dr who's tardis, what a shop I could have spent hours there.

I live well over 200 miles from this shop, but I shall definitely visit it again not least because the staff were so pleasant and helpful. It is far better laid out and better stocked than most, and well worth a diversion if you are in the area. "She who must be obeyed" Came in with me and reckons it’s so good because it’s run by women. No comment!

Awesome little shop which I frequently visit when visiting family in the area. Wide range of RTR stock in N and OO at good prices and a selection of oddities and S/H stuff you never quite know what you'll find. Friendly and humourous staff which almost make parting with your cash a pleasure! Excellent to tie in with a trip to nearby pecorama, and the seaton tramway to make a great rail-orientated day out. Parking can be "Interesting" As the site is an old petrol station so it can be a bit tight, but it's worth it; if all else fails take a trip to the tytherleigh arms (About a mile north on the a358) and go back later! Well worth a detour off the a303 (10 miles) if you're heading anywhere near that way. They also have a loyalty card scheme for regular customers. A model club meets there as well. There's much more stock than their website shows - and they do a nice cuppa as well which makes a visit more worthwhile.
